Peter, Paul and Mary are an American folk trio formed in New York City in 1961, consisting of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers, who became (according to Allmusic) the most popular folk group of the 1960s and had a significant influence on the development of the genre. Subsequently, Peter, Paul and Mary did not give up their positions, remaining in the history of modern music one of the most long-lasting and consistent in their work groups. A characteristic factor that determined the difference between the trio and their main competitors, in particular, The Kingston Trio and The Brothers Four, was their long-term relationship with the same major label, Warner Bros., - "... Which is not surprising: their roots go to a depth that few could dream of, while they appeal to audiences that few can reach" (Allmusic). Peter, Paul and Mary have had twelve albums enter the Billboard 200, with the first two (in 1962 and 1963) reaching #1. Of their 19 Top 100 hits on the US Singles Chart, their highest was "Leaving on a Jet Plane" (#1, 1969). The group won five Grammy Awards from 1962 to 1969
